DILI, february 20, 2023 (TATOLI) – Minister of Health and the United States International Development Agency (USAID) provided capacity building to the 65 health professionals staff on data analysis and interpretation.
The training aims to provide skills to human resources on data analysis, interpretation, and use of data for planning and necessary decisions about disease cases in the health system.
“This training is important for health professionals to support the Ministry of Health’s policy to ensure data for the health decentralization system in municipalities,” The National Director of Policy and Cooperation, Ministry of Health, Narciso Fernandes told Tatoli in fatuhada, this monday.
Fernandes explained that the MoH still receives support from development partners to accumulate the national data system, that analyzes the progress of the implementation of the health program in Timor-Leste.
According to Fernandes, the Internet network is the main challenge for the accumulation of database programs including human resources capacities.
“Therefore we are giving the training to increase the knowledge of health officials”.
Narciso Fernandes referred that the MoH evaluates more than 80 data on the progress of the implementation of the health sector program, such as the nutrition of children and mothers, non-contagious diseases, and antenatal care, among others.
The Data Program Officer of the municipality of Baucau, Justino Aparício, said, in turn, that “The training helps us to guarantee the quality of data in the health system”.
Aparício acknowledged that the health center faces an Internet problem when it includes data in the online system. “We have 23 programs such as maternal care, child health, nutrition, and among others”.
He also said that the health center registers the highest number of diseases in the health center respiratory infections.
So far, USAID is helping countries to improve the availability, quality, and use of data targets set out in the health-related goals. The Health data collaborative exists to empower countries to ensure set out health-related goals.
