DILI, 02 march 2023 (TATOLI) – Charge d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy, Xu Danyang said that China intends to import more coffee from Timor-Leste.

In 2021, China began promoting coffee from Timor-Leste in the Chinese market with the importation of more than 340 tons of coffee.

Danyang said that since then the quantities of coffee imported from Timor-Leste have increased by 140% every year.

“China is a huge market for Timor-Leste. So we will continue to import more coffee from Timor-Leste,” Danyang said after a meeting with President Horta at the Presidential Palace in Dili.

He said China not only imported Timorese coffee but also donated nearly $70,000 to support Timor-Leste’s coffee industry and coffee farmers.

“The Chinese like Timor coffee because it is one of the highest quality organic coffees in the world. We will continue to promote Timorese coffee in the Chinese market,” Danyang stressed.

During the meeting, President Horta asked the Chinese Embassy to bring more Chinese investors to invest in the country, to create more job opportunities for the Timorese people.

“President Horta wants Chinese companies to invest more in Timor. So I agreed with the Head of State and I will do my best to convince more Chinese companies to come and invest in Timor-Leste,” he added.

He said that if there is more investment in the country, then young people don’t need to look for jobs abroad while they can work and earn money at home.
