DILI, 10 march 2023 (TATOLI)- The President of the Republic Democratic of Timor – Leste, Jose Ramos Horta, met with his homologue of the President Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in Baku, to discuss the future of bilateral cooperation in the sector of oil and gas also investment in the sector of agriculture and education.

“We both meet each other to discuss the future of bilateral cooperation in the sector of education, oil, and gas, and investment in agriculture and we agree to be implemented in short term, this meeting also will enhance the fraternity and friendship in the future,’’ said Horta through the press release which accessed by TATOLI.

Horta also highlighted the importance of this meeting to promote diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“As the President of the Republic of Timor – Leste, my first obligation and function is to promote Timor – Leste in the international world and to strengthen the friendship and continue to inform the success of our country in the world,’’ he said.

Horta appreciates Azerbaijan‘s success in hosting the Non–Aligned Movement (NAM) that took place in Baku.

In this opportunity the President of the Republic, Horta also request his homologue to offer a scholarship to the Timorese students to continue their study at the universities in Azerbaijan.

President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in turn, stated that Ramos Horta‘s visit was an important step that will ensure the successful continuation of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“This the first time for Timor – Leste ‘s President made his visit to Azerbaijan, therefore this visiting will open a new history to start the mutual bilateral cooperation in the various sectors,’’ he said

President Ilham Aliyev said despite the distance between Azerbaijan and Timor – Leste ‘s is distant but it is not one of the obstacles to conducting bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the future.
