COVALIMA, 25 march 2023 (TATOLI) – Timor Resources will complete its onshore exploration drilling of the Lafaek well in Covalima municipality within two weeks.
Following the completion of the well-drilling, the company would proceed with the execution of well-testing activities to collect and analyze data for a broader understanding of the hydrocarbon properties of the Lafaek well reservoir.
The rig will be opened for the on-site flow testing. So, the oil will come to the surface and will be quantified to know how much oil is producible from that area.
Timor Resources Drilling Advisor, Perry Aarts said that the drilling target for the Lafaek well is 3100 meters: “We are hoping for 10 days or two weeks to get to that target and then we can go to well testing.”
He said that drilling has been stuck three times due to tectonic movement, earthquakes, high-pressure zone, and logistical challenges.
Aarts highlighted that the Lafaek well lies in a potential zone, saying there is a very good sign: “The well testing determines the amounts of oil and gas in the well. This well has the potential.”
In addition to Lafaek, Timorese Resources will also conduct well testing of the two other wells called Liurai and Fetokmaus: “There is no well testing yet. The test comes at the end.”
The President of the National Petroleum and Minerals Authority (ANPM), Florentino Soares Ferreira stressed that Timor-Resources will present its exploration final report regarding whether the oil and gas deposits discovered in the three wells are commercially viable or not.
“Let’s wait for the report. Drilling is not an easy process due to the difficulties faced at the drilling site,” Ferreira told reporters during a visit to the Lafaek well in Covalima Municipality.
The results of the exploration drilling of the wells will be publicly announced by ANPM.
More than 550 jobs have been created on a short and long-term basis for Timorese people in the exploration.
Timor Resources Pty Ltd is a privately owned Australian oil and gas company, incorporated in 2016, for the sole purpose of exploring oil and gas onshore in Timor-Leste.
