DILI, 22 april 2023 (TATOLI)- The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, today participated in the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri at the Indonesian Embassy, Dili, Timor-Leste, and invited Muslims to contribute to the development of this country.
“Timor Leste has many harmony religions, so this is a very important day, and it is the last day of fasting for Muslims,” President Horta told reporters after the celebration event at the Indonesian Embassy in Dili, This Saturday.
During the interview, Horta send a warm welcome to Indonesian Muslims in TL, with the hope that the Indonesian citizens could contribute to the country’s development, saying that TL is a model country for all regional ethnicities.
“I am here because of an invitation from the Indonesian Ambassador, where together with Muslims, especially Indonesian Citizens in Timor-Leste, to celebrate this very important Eid al-Fitr, as a tradition, culture, like other religions. . ,” said Horta.
In the same place, the Indonesian Ambassador in TL, Okto Dorinus Manik said, today is Eid Al-Fitr 1444 Hijiri which is celebrated every year.
“This is different from previous years because previously there were restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this year we celebrate without COVID-19 restrictions. However, we remain vigilant about the current development of COVID-19 in the state,” said Ambassador.
According to Ambassador, this is part of a community gathering, between all Muslim and non-Muslim communities, and this is a moment of celebration of brotherhood between the Indonesian communities in Timor-Leste.
“This Eid al-Fitr is a day of victory after fasting for approximately 30 days. We celebrate this victory together as part of a victory for all. Almost all of the Muslims who attended this celebration were from the Indonesian community in Dili,” he said.
Meanwhile, the data from the Indonesian Embassy recorded around 7,000 Indonesian citizens residing n Timor-Leste.
