DILI, 15 may 2023 (TATOLI)— The British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Owen Jenkins said, British Government supports Timor-Leste’s succession to ASEAN.
Jenkins delivered this commitment at the meeting with Timor-Leste President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta.
Ambassador Jenkins said, the United Kingdom, can support the president’s vision for the development of TL, particularly in the field of human development but also in the support of Timor-Leste succession to ASEAN.
“This is what we discuss today with the president, so we came to support TL, we work to support children in health, education but also we want to support the government of Timor-Leste in capacity building and support of the roadmap towards the ASEAN succession,” Ambassador Jenkins told the media after meeting with President of Republic José Ramos Horta at the presidential palace, Dili.
Jenkins also highlights his last visit to Timor-Leste, saying he surely that the UK continues to support and friendship for TL.
“In what would be my last visit to Timor-Leste as Ambassador, I am sure the president of the United Kingdom continued support and friendship for Timor-Leste. We have been here since Timor-Leste’s independence and we will be more present and more supportive for TL to come,” he added.
In turn, Ambassador said, President Horta always shows the friendship commitment which Timor-Leste has towards the United Kingdom.
“President as always show me the friendly relationship which Timor-Leste has toward the UK. Timor-Leste has recently sent a new Ambassador to London, and his carrying out great work, his excellency president, we knew his commitment to developing Timor-Leste, and making sure that he carries on democratic and human right based societies since the independence,”
