DILI, 30 may 2023 (TATOLI) – The National Parliament unanimously ratified the air service agreements with Qatar and New Zealand. The proposal was presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Magno, in march.
Qatar, which has one of the largest and busiest airlines in the world, will bring dynamism to Timor-Leste airport.
Qatar Airlines’ operation in the territory of Timor-Leste will boost the country’s connectivity with other countries in the Southeast Asian region and so on.
The Air Service Agreement with New Zealand is a crucial step for airlines to operate between Timor-Leste and New Zealand, which could contribute to increasing the country’s connectivity with Pacific island countries.
The ratification of both air service agreements will ensure the highest level of safety and international protection.
In addition, Timor-Leste has already signed air service agreements with the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Singapore, and Australia.
‘On monday (29/05), the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), signed a contractual agreement with Indonesian state-owned company, Waskita Karya Enterprise, Amythas Enterprise, and Japanese Joint Ventures for the implementation of the expansion project of Dili International Airport.
The modernization of Dili International Airport will pave the way for socio-economic growth. This project will improve Timor-Leste’s economic ties with other countries in the region, which will improve trade and the movement of workers. It will help develop the country’s productive sector, such as tourism.
