DILI, 19 june 2023 (TATOLI) – The congressmen of the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT) unanimously approved the coalition of CNRT with the Democratic Party (PD) for the formation of the IX Constitutional Government.
The decision was taken in direct democracy during the CNRT National Conference held at Oka Hall in Dili, where all members of Congress raised their hands to approve CNRT’s preference to have a coalition government with the PD for the period 2023 to 2028.
CNRT Secretary-General Francisco Kalbuadi Lay asked those who rejected the collation not to raise their hands, but all the congressmen unanimously approved the decision.
“According to the electoral law, the decision of the party’s congressmen is the most respected one and they all approved our coalition with the PD,” Kalbuadi said at the CNRT’s National Conference, in Dili, on monday.
CNRT President Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão officially announced the approval of the decision, after seeing all congressmen raise their hands, allowing CNRT to form the next government with the PD: “The decision is now made and we will rule with the PD.”
Gusmão called on CNRT supporters, especially those who will hold important positions, to serve the people and the nation well in order to gain the trust of the people in the party and not in one particular person.
“The political party is an instrument to bring together all people with common interests to accelerate national development in order to improve the welfare of the people,” Gusmão added.
Gusmão praised CNRT supporters for maintaining peace and stability during the parliamentary elections.
