DILI, 03 july 2023 (TATOLI)– The United (U.S.) through its Secretary of State, Antony John Blinken, conveyed his congratulation to Timor-Leste’s new prime minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão and the new member of Government, who was officially sworn in on saturday.
“Congratulations to Xanana Gusmão on his election as Prime Minister of Timor-Leste. The United States is committed to our partnership with Timor-Leste and looks forward to working with Prime Minister Gusmão and the new government to advance shared priorities and democratic values,” Antony John Blinken congratulated through his official twitter account.
PM, Xanana Gusmão along with 46 members of the government consisting of two Deputy Prime Ministers, 19 Ministers, 10 Deputy Ministers and 15 State Secretaries. This ninth constitutional government has six female government members.
The United States and Timor-Leste enjoy a positive relationship as two democracies with a shared interest in advancing the rule of law and human rights.
The United States also provides important assistance through the United States of Development Agency (USAID) and other programs that help Timor-Leste develop its democratic institutions, diversify its economy, and increase its security capacity.
Both countries established diplomatic relations on 20 may 2022, the day when Timor-Leste restored its independence. The United States has provided more than $500 million in bilateral assistance throughout 20 years over.
U.S agencies present in Timor-Leste include the Departments of State, Defense, and Justice, USAID, and the Peace Corps.
