“The Prime Minister of Portugal, António Luis Santos da Costa, will visit Timor-Leste at the end of this month to strengthen the bilateral cooperation that has been carried out by the two countries,” the Ambassador of Portugal to Timor-Leste, Maria Manuela Freitas Bairos, told reporters during a meeting with the Secretary of State for Social Communications, Expedito Diaz Ximenes, at his office in Palace Government Dili on Tuesday.

The ambassador, Manuel Bairos, informed that the purpose of the official visit of the Prime Minister of Portugal to Timor-Leste is to have a meeting with the Timorese President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, and Xanana Gusmão – the Prime Minister of the Ninth Constitutional Government, who was recently sworn in, and other relevant institutions.

“Portugal and Timor-Leste have conducted bilateral cooperation in various sectors such as the education sector, justice, and other related sectors, including the development of the Portuguese language in Timor-Leste, which has been done by both countries during this time,” the Portuguese diplomat said.

At the same place, the Secretary of State for Social Communications, Expedito Diaz Ximenes, recognized the quality of the Portuguese language that had been developed in Timor-Leste so far.

The development of the Portuguese language, according to the executive, is due to the journalism training provided by the Institute of Camões and CLJ, which facilitated the Radio and Television of Timor-Leste (RTTL, Acronym in Portuguese), TATOLI, the Timor-Leste news agency, and other conventional media in Timor-Leste, ensuring a continuous collaboration in Timor-Leste, among other things.

“The arrival of Portugal’s Prime Minister António Luis Santos da Costa will strengthen bilateral cooperation by using the Portuguese development in Timor-Leste,” Expedito outlined.

“The use of the Portuguese language has been developed in all schools in Timor-Leste, hoped that with the support of the Portuguese Institute in Timor-Leste, the use of the Portuguese language will be developed through the writing of journalists and the dissemination of good quality Portuguese language information to the public,” he emphasized.
