DILI, 14 july 2023 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste is currently preparing the proposal for its rectification budget to be presented to the National Parliament.

Deputy Finance Minister Hélder Lopes said the focus of the rectification budget is to address stock-outs of essential medicines, passport books, and natural disaster response in the first three months of the Government’s mandate.

“The acceleration of the preparation of the rectification budget proposal is necessary to support the program of the IX Government,” Lopes told reporters at the Finance Ministry office, in Dili, today.

He stated that in order to expedite the plan’s drafting, the technical team is presently working to finalize the proposal in the near future.

Following the ratification of the IX Constitutional Government’s program, the rectification budget request will be presented to the national parliament.

“The rectification budget would be taken from the 2023 State Budget, totaling $2.1 billion. The budget will be reallocated to support the priorities of the IX Government in the fiscal year 2023,” Lopes explained.

In addition, the Ministry of Finance is working on the general budget proposal for the fiscal year 2024, which will be presented to the National Parliament soon.

Lopes emphasized the necessity of Public Financial Management (PFM), asking new government members to learn and grasp PFM so that they can prepare and execute the General State Budget.
