WV-TL recommends govt to provide a decree law for the implementation of the Child Protection Law

DILI, 17 July 2023 (TATOLI) –World Vision Timor-Leste (WV-TL) recommended the ninth Constitutional Government to pass a decree law on the implementation of the child protection law in Timor-Leste.

WVTL, Gender, and Child Protection Specialist, Joana Camões said WVTL expected to implement child protection law number 29/V (3a) approved by the National Parliament in February 2023, to offer protection to every child and youth under pressure and difficult situations.

“We hope that the new government will approve the decree law for the implementation of the child protection law. So it is for us to provide information about child protection laws and share it with the public including parents,” said Joana Camoes in the Saun Paul II Conference Room, Comoro, Monday.

While waiting for the decision from the Government, Camões said, WV-TL is currently focused on working closely with young people in Maliana, Balibo, and other municipalities to help young people create positive interactions with others and avoid negative thinking, build teamwork, also promote leadership.

“WVTL supported over 1000 young people from 40 youth clubs from Maliana, Bobonaro, and other municipalities, by implementing children programs such as child protection programs, programs that reduce violence against children, and discrimination activities to bring the comprehensive on child protection issue,”

According to Camões WV-TL is committed to providing advocacy to help young people reduce and avoid violence and crimes against children in the future.
