DILI, 02 august 2023 ( TATOLI)-Over 1,300 Timorese workers in South Korea are not included in the system and continue to work illegally in South Korea, said South Korean Ambassador, Shin Mantaek.

“Currently 3,700 Timorese workers are working in South Korea based on reports, of these, 1300 have left the system and are working illegally in South Korea,” Ambassador Shin Mantaek told reporters at Becora Professional Training Center, (CFP), Dili on Monday. Wednesday.

He said, currently South Korea records many workers from 16 countries working illegally, including Timor-Leste, as the third country whose workers work illegally in South Korea.

“Illegal migrant workers will not receive guarantees, so if anyone experiences difficulties in South Korea, the South Korean and Timor Leste governments will not be held responsible for them,”

In response to this situation, Ambassador Shin Mantaek also asked Timorese workers to comply with all regulations imposed by the South Korean Government, also asked workers to stay in the system and avoid working illegally, adding that they would be deported by the South Korean Immigration office, as soon as they were found to be working illegally in South Korea.

In the same place, Secretary of State for Vocational and Employment, Rojerio Araujo Mendonca said he would continue to coordinate and communicate with Timor Leste Embassy and attaches in South Korea to control Timorese workers to comply with regulations in South Korea.

“SEFOPE will coordinate and communicate effectively with the Embassy and our attachés in South Korea to control them. The hope is that with effective communication, we will reduce Timorese workers who want to leave the system and do other work illegally in South Korea,” he said. conclude.
