Parliament approves Horta’s State visit to two countries – USA and Cuba

DILI, 30 august 2023 (TATOLI) – The National Parliament has today unanimously approved the State visit of the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, to the United States of America and Cuba.

President Horta requested Parliament’s approval to visit Cuba, which will take place between september 12 and 16, 2023, to participate in the upcoming G-77+China Summit in Havana, Cuba.

Many Heads of State, including President Horta, will attend that summit under the theme “Current Development Challenges: Role of Science, Technology, and Innovation”, on September 15 and 16, 2023, in Havana.

After concluding his State visit to Cuba, Horta will continue his visit to the US from september 17 to 24, 2023, to participate in the 78th UN General Assembly, which will take place between september 18 and 26, 2023, in New York City.

The theme of the General Assembly, including the general debate, will be ‘Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its sustainable development goals towards peace, prosperity, progress, and sustainability for all.

During UNGA 78, world leaders, including young leaders, will discuss and debate how to confront the global polycrisis and find strategies to accelerate action on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Therefore, the SDG Summit will be a central UNGA 78 event. It will bring together leaders and communities to reaffirm commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals at the halfway mark to 2030.

The Climate Ambition Summit, scheduled for September 20, will be an opportunity for leaders to demonstrate their collective commitment to respond to the mounting climate emergency.

During UNGA 78, the United Nations Foundation will highlight key moments and share insights and perspectives from leaders, experts, and influencers across borders and sectors.
