DILI, 18 september 2023 (TATOLI)– The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Timor – Leste Marc Friedrich, said the European Union committed to supporting the Government in developing the security sector and civil protection in Timor-Leste.
Marc Friedrich expressed this support during a meeting with Minister of Interior, Francisco Guterres, in the office of the Ministry of Interior Vilaverde, Dili.
“This visit is to actualize the progress of work which has been carried out by the EU together with the previous government and also to hear about the program plans that will be carried out by the ninth government to strengthen the bilateral relations in the sector of security and civil protection,” said Ambassador Marc Friedrich.
Minister of Interior, Francisco Guterres, appreciated all the support that has been given to the Ministry of Interior to develop the government’s priority programs in the sector of security and civil protection.
Guterres added that this meeting was also to strengthen the friendly relations in advancing the development process in Timor-Leste.
“In this meeting, we introduced the policies and priority programs of the Ministry of Interior so that, the European Union can adapt the Ministry’s program to become a development partner in Timor-Leste. European Union is committed to conducting cooperation and on this occasion wishes to solidarize with the people of Timor-Leste to develop Timor-Leste in the future,” he said.
In addition, European Union has also supported the National Police of Timor-Leste, especially in the eradication of gender-based crimes, training of human resources, supporting emission equipment in printing identity cards (BI), and other related programs in Timor-Leste.
Among the support provided, the EU has also supported the development of Timor-Leste in nutrition programs, reforestation, combating corruption, agriculture, the public finance sector, capacity development in the National Parliament, High Court, good governance, economic diversification, decentralization programs, and other sectors in Timor – Leste.
