DILI, 04 october 2023 (TATOLI) – The Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV) will refer 140 patients accompanied by their family members to overseas hospitals for treatment.

HNGV Clinical Director, Marcelino Correia said that most of the patients suffer from heart disease and cancer.

According to Correia, these patients are in serious condition, saying therefore they have to be referred to overseas hospitals for intensive and adequate treatment.

These 140 patients have been waiting for the Ministry of Justice to issue their passports as soon as possible so that they can go abroad for treatment in a timely manner.

“These patients deserve adequate treatment and it is the responsibility of the HNGV to ensure that any patient in severe condition will be referred to hospitals abroad,” he said.

They will be sent to hospitals in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

“Patients whose passports have expired must get their visas stamped at the embassies of Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia in accordance with the agreement made by the Timor-Leste government with these countries,” Correia emphasized.

He wants the government to accelerate the process of issuing passports for these patients so that they can be immediately sent for treatment at overseas hospitals.
