DILI, 16 october 2023 (TATOLI) – The Head of State continues to discuss peace and reconciliation in the world with the Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Elders (MCE), Mohamed Abdelsalam at the headquarters of the Human Fraternity in Abu Dhabi.
The President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta’s relationship with the MCE began in 2021 when he was involved in awarding the Zayed Human Fraternity Award and has continued to work with the MCE to develop and promote the Human Fraternity document.
The Head of State affirmed that in the future, “there will be a Human Fraternity office in Timor-Leste, and this office can be used for one week each year when needed for meetings, and Timor-Leste will use it for its needs related to the Human Fraternity,” explained President Horta.
According to the Head of State, the establishment of a Human Fraternity headquarters in Timor-Leste will make a significant contribution to making Timor-Leste a true beacon of peace and tolerance and an example to the world and the MCE community.
Mohammed Abdelsalam was honored by the surprise visit, as he considers the current Head of State of Timor-Leste to be an icon and an example to the world for his promotion of peace, fraternity, social cohesion, and tolerance.
“Ramos-Horta is an example of how to demonstrate these values through consistency, respect, and understanding for others. And we have in Timor-Leste a real example of how a small nation with limited resources has found a way to achieve peace, consistency, and human fraternity with all its neighbors and the region as a whole”, said Mohamed Abdelsalam.
The MCE leader also expressed his admiration for Timor-Leste’s relationship with Indonesia, in which, during meetings with the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Jokowi, they always discuss bilateral relations in various areas and the strong ties between the two nations.
“I have a message for the people of Timor-Leste: you can be very proud that even though your nation is simple and less developed, you have a great leader, the only President in the world who is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and also a key member and one of the important members of the Zayed International Prize family for Human Fraternity. And with this faith, you will continue to live in peace and with a bright future for your country, thanks to your indomitable spirit and the existence that you have”, said Mohamed Abdelsalam.
