DILI, 08 november 2023 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Youth, Sports, Art and Culture (MJDAC), Nélio Isac Sarmento said that the Chinese government has declared its commitment to support the development of sports infrastructure (soccer fields) and sports equipment in Timor-Leste.
“We have already held a technical discussion between the two countries about the need for sports infrastructure and equipment in the country. Because the Chinese government is willing to cooperate with MJDAC in order to improve the condition of our soccer fields and equipment for sports activities in the future,” Sarmento told Tatoli at the Government Palace.
According to him, in addition to soccer fields, the Chinese government is also willing to develop volleyball and basketball courts.
Sarmento added that some sports facilities are still in good condition, saying that more facilities are needed to support athletes’ training.
China’s ambassador to Timor-Leste, Wang Wenli, revealed that the Chinese government would continue to support the development of sport in Timor-Leste, without forgetting possible aid to the education and health sectors.
Many believe that the development of sports infrastructures and good facilities will definitely improve the ability of Timorese athletes to perform well at international competitions.
