DILI, 12 november 2023 (TATOLI) – The President of the Timor-Leste National Youth Council, Maria Dadi Magno called on the youth to take the initiative to shoulder the responsibility of building and bringing progress to the country.
Magno urged the youth to put aside differences for the sake of peace and stability: “Most of the population are young people. Therefore, young people should take responsibility to develop the country and avoid conflict.”
“We must contribute to peace and stability. As young people, we must improve ourselves before contributing to the country,” he said.
According to her, the younger generation can contribute to the country’s development in many ways such as having a good education and skills in many areas in order to contribute to the political, social, and economic stability of the country.
He said that the younger generation must become agents of change to bring significant changes to the country through innovation and the use of technology.
Vice-Prime Minister and Minister Coordinator for Rural Development and Community Housing, Mariano Assanami Sabino called on the new generation to learn how to promote cooperation, understanding, and mutual support: “Those who always try to destabilize this country are traitors to the heroes who have sacrificed their lives for independence.”
“The freedoms we enjoy today were earned with the sacrifice of the blood and lives of our heroes. Put aside our differences and take this nation forward to ensure a better future for all,” he said.
National leaders have always encouraged young people to forge ahead on a new journey toward realizing Timor-Leste’s dream of national rejuvenation, which means that the new generation must be prepared to shoulder the responsibilities that the leaders of the 1975s will hand over to them.
