Parliament: Discussion on GSB 2024 proposal scheduled for december 12

DILI, 29 november 2023 (TATOLI) – The National Parliament (PN) has announced the calendar for the debate of the General State Budget 2024 proposal.

The calendar includes the following days: the general debate will take place on december 12 and 13 and dthe special debate will take place from December 14 to 19, with the final global debate scheduled for December 20.

According to the chairwoman of Committee C, which deals with public finance affairs, Cedelizia dos Santos, the government will meet with the specialized committees in Parliament to begin the public hearings to assess the GSB 2024 proposal. The public hearings will take place from november 30 to december 5.

“We have already approved the calendar for the public hearings and we have submitted it to the President of the National Parliament, Fernanda Lay, so that she can forward it to the Prime Minister,” said Cedelizia dos Santos, at the National Parliament.

Santos added that the committee will present a written request to the Petroleum Fund Consultative Council, the Non-Governmental Organizations, as well as the Women’s Group of the National Parliament of Timor-Leste to pay attention to the opinions of the parliamentarians during the discussion of the 2024 State Budget.

Cedelizia dos Santos stressed that the final version of the State budget will be sent to the President of the Republic for promulgation.

On november 21, the Council of Ministers approved the draft of the General State Budget 2024 proposal of US$1.95 billion for the Central Administration, the Special Administrative Region of Oé-Cusse Ambeno (RAEOA), and Social Security, without the Social Security Reserve Fund. That figure includes an allocation of US$1.83 billion for the central administration and US$60 million for the RAEOA.
