DILI, 21 february 2024 (TATOLI) – The National Statistics Institute Timor-Leste (INETL) reported that all groups of Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell -0.4% in january 2024, compared to a rose +0.3% in december 2023.
INETL data indicates that there’s a significant fall in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-0.4%), Alcohol and Tobacco (-0.9%), Transports (-0.9%), Clothing and Footwear (-0.8%) and Furnishing, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance (-0.7%). The largest offsetting movement came from Recreation and Culture (+1.5%) and Education (+2.0%) groups.
The 12-month Tradeable CPI rate stood at +5.7%, with the Non-Tradeable rate a rice +0.8%, according to INETL.
The largest upward contributions to the change in the one month CPI rate (-0.4%) between January 2024 and December 2023, came from:
- Food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.4%): which was significantly driven by Vegetables (-1.4%), Sugar, Jam, Honey, Chocolate and Confectionery (-2.7%), Fish and Seafood (-2.1%), Milk, Cheese and Eggs (-1.6%), Meats (-0.4%), Oil and Fats (-0.5%) and Fruits (-0.7%) sub groups. The largest offsetting movement came from Rice (+1.4%), Mineral Waters, Soft Drinks, Fruit and Vegetable Juices (+2.3%) and Food Products (+0.5%) subgroups.
- Alcohol and Tobacco (-0.9%): was driven by Tobacco (-1.4%) sub group.
- Transports (-0.9%): was driven by Operation of Personal Transport Equipment (-1.9%) and Transports Services (-0.2%) sub group.
- Clothing and Footwear (-0.8%): was driven by Garment for Women (-3.0%) and Footwear and Clothing Accessories (-0.7%) sub groups.
- Furnishing, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance (-0.7): was driven by Good and Services for Routine Household Maintenance (-1.3%).
In the other part, the largest offsetting movement came from:
- Recreation and Culture (+1.5%): was driven by Newspapers, Books and Stationery (+3.7%).
- Education (+2.0%): was driven by Education (+2.0%) sub group.
