DILI, 22 february 2024 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, on wednesday held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Mozambique to Timor-Leste, Belmiro José Malate, to discuss cooperation between the two countries in the education and oil and gas sectors.
“For cooperation in education, we will focus on laborers training. We also talked about offering Portuguese training to Timorese teachers as we are members of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries,” said Ambassador Malate.
He said that Mozambique will discuss with the Timorese government how to improve the Portuguese language skills of Timorese teachers.
During the meeting, they also talked about the importance of establishing cooperation in oil and gas.
“We also discussed cooperation in the field of oil and gas, where Mozambique has experienced natural oil and gas production like Timor-Leste,” said Ambassador Malate. “Establishing cooperation in oil and gas will help strengthen our economy.”
Mozambique is a country located in southeastern Africa rich in natural resources including oil and gas.
The Mozambican government has implemented several teacher training programs, one of which is the Portuguese Language Teacher Training Programmed (PLTTP) since the 1980s.
PLTTP has helped thousands of teachers in Mozambique to develop their teaching skills in Portuguese language.
