DILI, 13 march 2024 (TATOLI) – France’s Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste intended to support Timor-Leste in the maritime security sector.
Minister of Defense Timor-Leste, Almirante Donaciano Costa Gomes, said in the discussion with the French Ambassador for Indonesia, Timor-Leste discussed maritime security.
The Ambassador of France visited Timor-Leste to strengthen cooperation with Timor-Leste, especially in the navigation sector.
“We know that France Ship visits Timor Leste aimed to interact with ASEAN navigation, especially Timor-Leste,’’ Minister of Defense Timor Leste, Almirante Donaciano Costa Gomes, told journalists in FFDTL’s headquarters, Fatuhada, on tuesday.
He added the visit of a French ship in Timor-Leste to establish cooperation on Navy joint training. It is a very important cooperation between the Timorese Navy and France Nave.
“In the upcoming months, the specialist will visit Timor-Leste to provide capacity building for the Timor-Leste Navy on how to protect our sea from illegal fishing, human traffic, and drugs,’ He concluded
Ambassador of France in Indonesia and Timor Leste, Fabian Penone, said the reinforcement relationship between France and Timor Leste is a priority for France’s government.
France and Timor-Leste share the same values of democracy, human rights, respect, and rule of law, especially international laws supported by multilateralism.
“Timor-Leste also owned very important rules in the region with accession to ASEAN because of its geographic position between the Pacific, south of Asia, and India Ocean, France in the ocean in the Pacific.
Mr. Penone said it was a very interesting discussion with the Minister of Defense on what France could do to develop some important sectors, such as maritime security and economic development.
