DILI, 13 march 2024 (TATOLI) – Nivio Magalhães and Laura Abrantes are today officially sworn in by Timor-Leste’s President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, one of Timorese’s Laurate Peace Prize Nobel, to be assigned to Cuba Republic and Community Portuguese-speaking countries, known as CPLP.
Nivio is officially sworn in to be assigned to Cuba, and Laura Abrantes to CPLP.
The new Ambassador of CUBA, Nivio Magalhães, after the ceremony, committed that as a new diplomat, his part should strengthen cooperation in the health sector, explore new opportunities for cooperation, and prioritize education, agriculture, youth, sport, and other important programs.
“Firstly, I would like to express my greatest gratitude to the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, José Ramos Horta, the Prime Minister, Kayrala Xanana Gusmão, and all government members who appointed me to become the new ambassador of the CUBA Republic. It is the greatest honor for me to be assigned this responsibility,” Nivio Magalhães, said, in the President’s Palace on wednesday.
The newly appointed ambassador added that an ambassador will hold on to three commitment points working as a Timorese Ambassador in CUBA until the end of the mandate, such as strengthening cooperation and exploring opportunities, and the last commitment is guaranteeing dignity representation.
Likewise, the Timor-Leste Ambassador for CPLP, Laura Abrantes, said that her mandate as CPLP ambassador will be focused on strengthening bilateral and diplomatic cooperation among CPLP state members on historic and cultural issues, aimed at promoting the mutual human development of each country.
“We will focus on education and Portuguese capacity building through education interaction, especially in the Portuguese language,” she said.
She added It is also focused on climate change and food security. Thus, promoting economic growth issues.
Vice Minister for ASEAN Affairs, Milena Rangel, said today that the President of the Republic swears in two ambassadors, Nivio Magalhães to replace the ambassador, Eusébio Corsino, who has ended the mandate for Republic CUBA.
Thus, the new ambassador of CPLP, Laura Abrantes, replaced the former ambassador, Marina Alkatiri.
“Normally an ambassador is assigned for three years, and it is possible to expand the contract if it is necessary,” she said.
Mrs. Rangel said two new ambassadors will leave in one of two months after finalizing the process of preparing diplomatic documents.
