DILI, 03 april 2024 (TATOLI) – Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timor-Leste, Jorge Manuel de Araújo Serrano, accompanied by the prominent private sector representatives, on wednesday, held a meeting with the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Kao Kim Hourn, in Dili.
During the meeting, SG Kao underscored that Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN will bring positive impacts to its economy, as the country’s economy will have an open market access to a huge and lucrative market in ASEAN.
Kao encouraged the private sector to fully support the Timor-Leste Government in their efforts in becoming a full member of ASEAN.
He said that Timor-Leste’s private sector needs to collaborate closely with the ICC-TL to develop Timor-Leste’s tourism sector in order to contribute to the country’s economic growth as Timor-Leste is in the final stages of preparation for joining ASEAN in the near future.
Serrano expressed his heartfelt appreciation for SG Kao’s visit, thanking him for his guidance and advice.
“Your visit means a lot to CCI-TL, and thank you for sharing your valuable experiences with us, we will collaborate with our private sectors to accelerate the development of the tourism sector in Timor-Leste,” said Serrano.
