SECOMS witnesses signing of MoU between TATOLI and ANTARA News

JAKARTA, 17 april 2024 (TATOLI) – The Secretary of State for Social Communication (SECOMS – Portuguese acronym), Expedito Dias Ximenes, on tuesday, witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Indonesian news agency, known as ANTARA News and Timor-Leste News Agency, TATOLI on journalism training.

The MoU was signed by ANTARA’s Director of Commercial, Business Development, and Information Technology, Jaka Sugiyanta, and the President of TATOLI, Manuel Pinto, at the ANTARA Heritage Center, Jakarta-Indonesia, on tuesday.

Manuel Pinto said that TATOLI needed ANTARA’s assistance to support the development of its human resources through journalism training to improve the institution: “Therefore, in the future, we will continue to cooperate in the field of journalism training.”

Meanwhile, Sugiyanta said that ANTARA’s experience in playing a crucial role in providing information to the public could be something that TATOLI could do.

He said that the cooperation focused on the development of human resources, especially journalism training and the news exchanges between the two news agencies: “The cooperation is not limited to the two news agencies. This cooperation is not only between the two news agencies but also between Indonesia and Timor-Leste as two friends.”

Secretary of State for Social Communication, Expedito Dias Ximenes said the signing of the MoU was a historic moment for Timor-Leste, especially for TATOLI and ANTARA.

Dias hoped that cooperation between the two news agencies could improve Tatoli’s role in disseminating information to the public, especially in Timor-Leste, saying that the two agencies could also cooperate in other areas.

“On behalf of the government of Timor-Leste, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for this cooperation,” said Dias.

Currently, five staff members of TATOLI are attending a five-day training (april 16-20) at the Antara School of Journalism (ASJ), including Florencio Miranda Ximenes (National Desk Assignment Coordinator), Evaristo Soares Martins (Municipal Desk Assignment Coordinator), Armandina de Jesus Moniz (Indonesian Language News Editor), Alexandrina Bonaparte da Costa (Head of Administration and Finance Department) and Maria M. A. V. Ximenes (Head of Human Resources Department).
