DILI, 23 april 2024 (TATOLI) – UNDP Timor-Leste, together with Plan International, Office of the Prosecutor General, and Timorese National Police (PNTL), organized a three-day training for PNTL district commanders and chiefs of investigation to enhance their knowledge and ability to respond to gender-based violence (GBV).
The training focused on gender and the new criminal procedure code which supports Timor-Leste’s commitment to the rule of law, addressing gender inequality, and freedom from violence.
This training under the Together for Equality project was funded by the KOICA Timor-Leste Office.
The training was attended by Alfonso Lopes, Prosecutor General, Arquimino Ramos, National Police’s Commander of Personnel and Training, representatives from Plan International, and 37 (5% women) district commanders and chiefs of investigation.
“Empowering these district commanders and chiefs of investigations is crucial for a safer, more just society,” said in a statement.
The victims of Gender-Based Violence need support from all institutions, especially the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL).
