DILI, 27 may 2024 (TATOLI) – In a meeting with the President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, the representative of Artificial Intelligence, David Fenningan, expressed interest in supporting Timor-Lese with Artificial Intelligence and Innovative Technology.
“We will work together with President Horta and the Prime Minister to ensure that we bring innovative technology and artificial intelligence to this island nation,” Fenningan told reporters at the Presidential Palace, after meeting the Head of State.
He said that his team will work with the government to equip Timor-Leste to ensure that the nation can meet the 21st-century challenges and advance its infrastructure.
AI has taken the world by storm, simultaneously bringing immense opportunities and profound challenges to the economies and societies of developing countries.
“It’s essential that our approach to AI development aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, addressing potential risks effectively, creating a digital future that is open, free, secure, and centered around human needs,” UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan said.
International leaders highlighted that the interplay between AI and the digital economy could evolve, particularly for developing countries, and how to ensure the benefits reach every nation and individual.
