DILI, 24 may 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, today held a meeting with representatives from the Carrying Water Project (CWP) Global, a Japanese association working to foster cooperation between Japan and Timor-Leste in the water sector, in partnership with Kansei Company, a Japanese drilling and water company.
This meeting was held to present that 20 Timorese trainees who are currently receiving technical training in Water Management in Japan at the Kansei Company.
These trainees would be placed at the Vocational Training Centre (CFP) in Tibar.
CWP’s objective is to launch new water-related businesses in Timor-Leste through collaboration with these trainees when they return.
“CWP and Kansei Company want to continue collaborating on capacity building for Timorese in areas such as water supply systems and drainage,” said Japanese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, KIMURA Tetsuya after this meeting.
The delegation of the trainees will present to President Ramos-Horta their water sector training activities and future plans upon their arrival.
President Horta voiced strong support for the partnership and asked that CWP and its partners closely coordinate with the government moving forward, according to Ambassador KIMURA.
The Timorese trainees will attend the upcoming World Water Forum in Bali before heading to Timor-Leste in the coming weeks with enhanced skills.
CWP facilitates a wide range of cooperative exchanges between Japan and Timor-Leste focused on driving sustainable development via public-private partnerships. Their water initiatives with Kansei Company represent a key component of this broader bilateral cooperation.
