DILI, 03 june 2024 (TATOLI) – Switzerland will host a Summit on Peace in Ukraine at the Bürgenstock (Canton of Nidwalden) on 15 and 16 June 2024.
The summit will bring together many different heads of state and government to develop a common understanding of a path towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
On the sidelines of the 21st edition of the Shangri-La Dialogue of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, which took place between 31 may and 2 june in Singapore, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky invited his Timorese counterpart, José Ramos Horta, to take part in the summit. The statement was revealed by the Head of State at a press conference at President Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Dili.
In response to the Zelensky’s invitation, Horta said that Timor-Leste is available to take part in the conference.
“I met with the Ukrainian President and he invited Timor-Leste to take part in the Summit on Peace for Ukraine, which will take place on 15 and 16 june in Geneva. I made arrangements with Xanana Gusmão and he will be representing the country,” he said.
With regard to cooperation between Timor-Leste and Ukraine, the Head of State emphasized that his counterpart intends to establish bilateral relations with Timor-Leste in the agricultural field.
Horta also revealed that he had asked the President of Ukraine to focus on finding a solution to end the war.
