Vatican satisfies with Timor-Leste’s preparations for papal visit

DILI, 05 june 2024 (TATOLI) – The Holy See Representative in Timor-Leste, Monsignor Marco Sprizzi has recently said that the Vatican is pleased and praised the preparations of the Catholic Church and the government of Timor-Leste for the Pope’s visit to the country. Pope Francis will be visiting the country between 9 and 11 september.

” The Vatican congratulates and thanks the local government and Church, as well as the efforts made to ensure that everything is in place for the success of the Pope’s visit,” said Sprizzi at the end of a meeting between the Vatican delegation and the Organizing Committee with the Prime Minister, Xanana Gusmão, in Dili to inform him about the progress of preparations for the papal visit.

Cardinal Virgílio do Carmo da Silva also said the importance of creating the best conditions for the Holy Father’s visit and maintaining calm during his stay in the country.

Cardinal Silva said the Vatican delegation had asked the Timorese government and security authorities to maintain public order and provide security in Dili during the papal visit.

He emphasized that the most important thing the delegation has asked Timor-Leste to do is ensure a calm environment during the papal visit to avoid unwanted situations.

In addition, the Minister of State Administration, Tomás Cabral, said that according to the plan, the Organizing Committee wants to complete all the preparations by the end of august.

“All the authorities want to finalize all the preparations as soon as possible. All the preparation would be concluded 15 days before the visit. So, now all the preparations are well underway and we hope that they will continue to progress,” said Cabral. ‘
