DILI, 12 june 2024 (TATOLI) – The Australian Government, in collaboration with Timor-Leste’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, TradeInvest Timor-Leste, and the Timor-Leste Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCI-TL), will host the inaugural Timor-Leste – Australia Economic and Business Conference in Dili on 12 June 2024.
The Conference seeks to strengthen the economic and business ties between Australia and Timor-Leste by bringing together businesses, investors, and policymakers. Participants will explore opportunities to support Timor-Leste’s sustainable development in key sectors, including: agribusiness, construction and engineering, labour mobility, manufacturing and trade, resources and tourism, and hospitality. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit established businesses across the agribusiness, tourism, manufacturing, and training sectors in and around Dili.
The Australian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Caitlin Wilson, said the conference will highlight the strong and growing trade and investment opportunities for our two countries. “Australia is proud to support Timor-Leste’s ambitions for a strong economy that delivers opportunity for its people,” Ambassador Wilson said.
The Executive Director of TradeInvest Timor-Leste, Eng. Arcanjo da Silva, said the conference will serve as a platform to promote Timor-Leste’s productive sectors and generate interest from Australian businesses to form partnerships with local businesses. “We are delighted to have this opportunity to share knowledge and build understanding of business opportunities in Timor-Leste with Australian businesses and government officials,” he said.
In addition to the conference, the Australian Government and the Government of Timor-Leste will host several side events, including a public lecture from Australian National University Professor, Hal Hill on “Building a competitive economy – lessons from ASEAN”.
