Hundreds of Catholics from West Timor to attend open-air mass to be led by Pope Francis in Dili

DILI, 22 july 2024 (TATOLI) – More than 600 Catholics from the Diocese of Atambua, in West Timor, Indonesia, have registered to attend the open-air Mass to be led by Pope Francis during his apostolic journey to Timor-Leste, scheduled for 9 and 11 september 2024.

According to the Diocese of Atambua, 646 people from 22 parishes have registered to take part in the Mass.

The spokesperson of the Diocese of Atambua, Yosef Hello, said that the 646 people were made up of 283 men and 363 women.

Atambua is a town located in the north of the western half of Timor Island which is home to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Atambua. The Diocese’s population is over 95% Catholic, among the highest percentages of Catholics in all of Indonesia.

The town’s religion is made up of over 90% of Roman Catholic, 5% of Protestant, and a few more of Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist.
