DILI, 01 august 2024 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Francisco da Costa Monteiro, accompanied the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, the Vice Prime Minister, Francisco Kalbuady Lay, and other government members in a bilateral meeting between China and Timor-Leste in Beijing to discuss cooperation in various domains.
The meeting was presided over by the Chinese Prime Minister, Li Qiang, and the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Zhao Leji.
Through a joint declaration, the two nations committed to promoting comprehensive strategic cooperation and the creation of a China-Timor-Leste Community to enhance the living standards of the people in both countries in an economically globalized and inclusive manner.
Key areas identified for collaboration include the revitalization of industrial development, infrastructure, food security, and improvement of living conditions.
The Beijing government is also ready to support areas such as trade and investment, agriculture and fisheries, health, water conservation, energy, education, and poverty reduction. Additionally, cooperation in tourism, digital economy, green development, and assistance for Timor-Leste to achieve independent and sustainable development were discussed.
China congratulated Timor-Leste on its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and also supported Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN. China will share development opportunities through the China-ASEAN cooperation platform and East Asia cooperation.
