DILI, 15 november 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos  Horta, officially opened the second edition of Sci-Tech EXPO 2024 at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.

This two-day event running from november 15-16, marks a significant milestone in Timor-Leste’s journey toward technological advancement and innovation.

The Sci-Tech EXPO 2024 is part of the broader Timor-Leste Tourism Promotion Program 2024, themed “Science, Technology & Innovation: The Path Towards Transformation and Sustainable Development in Timor-Leste.”

The event brings together around 36 participants, including higher education institutions, international agencies, telecommunications companies, and leading technology firms. The two-day exposition features a comprehensive program including a science and technology exhibition, higher education fair, student competitions, and cultural activities.

“This expo represents more than just a showcase of technology – it embodies our nation’s commitment to embracing innovation as a catalyst for sustainable development,” said President Horta. “By investing in science and technology education, we are not just building infrastructure; we are investing in the dreams and capabilities of our young people who will lead Timor-Leste into the future.”

The event aims to stimulate interest in science and technology while promoting practical technological solutions tailored to Timor-Leste’s unique context. It serves as a platform for showcasing research projects, fostering educational partnerships, and developing critical skills in students.

The Sci-Tech EXPO 2024 is open to the public and feature a series of activities demonstrating the country’s commitment to progress across various sectors.

The first Sci-Tech EXPO 2024 was organized in august 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC), bringing together academics, internationally renowned scientists and leading figures in science and technology to promote scientific and technological advancement in Timor-Leste.
