President Horta launches “Go Green, Buy Local” Expo to promote Timorese women entrepreneurship

DILI, 18 november 2024 (TATOLI)— The president of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, launched the plant, crops, or “Go Green, Buy Local,” to boost women’s business activities.

This expo was organized by Women Economy Entrepreneurship (EEW), which presented Timorese local women entrepreneurs to showcase their local products, such as traditional natural goods and arts.

This expo aimed to increase women’s entrepreneurship visibility and to provide opportunities for vendors and buyers. Therefore, it is to help women create businesses and to find Timorese women’s achievements in promoting and preserving the environment and recycling in Timor-Leste.

“Our country must be strengthened for innovation and women entrepreneurship and on their sustainability of business practice,” President Horta said at the launch festival last Thursday.

He said this festival represents a unique opportunity for women to showcase their extraordinary ability to run local business activities while promoting awareness of the environment and to engage the strengthened creativity of the community with environmental activity and togetherness for sustainability in the future in Timor-Leste.

This initiative must be aligned with the commitment of the President of the Republic to boosting and empowering women’s economy outright and to environmental and cultural preservation.

This event commences by tasting local food and culinary “Ai-Han Timor, which is cooked and provided by Timor-Leste vendors for honorable visitors such as government members, diplomatic partners, and others.

It is known that this expo festival was held for three days in the presidential palace, Nicolau Lobato, from 14 to 16 November 2024. The expo activities include a plant expo, local women entrepreneurship, a creativity competition, presenting business activity, “Kios,” the opportunity for cultural exchange with the participation of the embassy, interactive activity, including drawing gifts and showcasing sustainable business practice, and selling local drinks and food.
