DILI, 12 january 2024 (TATOLI) – The government has transported 288 families from the recent eviction in Dili back to their municipalities, said the head of Comoro village, Eligio José da Silva Marçal.
These families were forcibly evicted from their homes near areas prone to natural disasters, especially on the river banks.
Of the 288 families, 50 returned to Baucau and the majority returned to the municipality of Ermera.
Meanwhile, 62 of the 92 families evicted in Fomentu I have also agreed to return to their municipalities, mainly Bobonaro, Ermera, and Liquiça.
The Secretary of State for Toponymy and Urban Organisation Affairs, Germano Santa Brites Dias, said that the government has always made transport available to support evicted families who voluntarily want to return to their municipalities.
“The government will support the transportation of evicted families who voluntarily want to return to their municipalities, including Baucau, Bobonaro, Covalima, and Viqueque.
He said that the Civil Protection Authority would distribute basic foodstuffs to support the evicted families during their temporary stay in Dili.
