DILI, 31 March 2025 (TATOLI) –The National Statistics Institute (INETL) recorded an inflation rate of 0.1% in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Timor-Leste for February 2025, compared to the previous month, which had recorded deflation of 0.2%.
INETL data indicates that the rise in prices was due to a 0.1% increase in food products and non-alcoholic beverages, 0.2% in alcoholic drinks, 0.1% in transportation, and 0.1% in housing.
The vegetables sub-group decreased by 0.4%, sugar, marmalade, honey, chocolate, and sweets by 0.5%, milk, cheese, and eggs by 0.5%, coffee, tea, and cocoa by 0.3%, and meat by 0.1%.
“There was a 0.4% increase in the rice sub-group, a 1.3% increase in the fish and seafood sub-group, a 2% increase in the fruit sub-group, and a 2% increase in the oil and fat sub-group,” quoted from the INETL document that TATOLI accessed on Monday.
The CPI also revealed a 0.2% decrease in prices in February 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. The deflation was due to a drop in the prices of transportation (0.2%), alcohol and tobacco (1.7%), housing (0.6%), and communication (0.9%).
Regarding price increases, in terms of the annual CPI, there was a 0.1% rise in food and non-alcoholic beverages, 0.4% in education, 2.3% in health, 0.4% in clothing and footwear, and 0.2% in recreation and culture.
