Burundi and Timor-Leste explore ways to strengthen bilateral ties

DILI, 12 Apeil 2025 (TATOLI) – Burundi and Timor-Leste have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. 

This was highlighted during a meeting in Dili on Friday, April 11, 2025, between Timor-Leste’s President, José Ramos-Horta, and Burundian Ambassador Zéphyrin Maniratanga, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Burundi to the United Nations.

During the one-on-one meeting, Ambassador Maniratanga delivered a special message from Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

Maniratanga conveyed key messages from President Ndayishimiye, including Burundi’s strong support for President Horta’s remarkable work within the g7+ group of states, as well as the Burundian President’s desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two nations in social and cultural domains.

The bilateral discussions also focused on shared challenges, including climate change, poverty, and other global issues.

The Ambassador concluded by extending an official invitation from President Ndayishimiye for President Horta to visit Burundi.

“It was a great honor for me to meet with President Horta and deliver this important message from my President,” Ambassador Maniratanga stated after the meeting, underscoring the significance of potential collaboration between the two nations with similar historical experiences.
