DILI, 17 April 2025 (TATOLI) – Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, Vice Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Minister of Tourism and Environment, paid a working visit to Jakarta to participate in the 37th Joint Meeting of the United Nations Tourism Commission for East Asia and the Pacific and the United Nations Tourism Commission for South Asia (CAP-CSA 37), the 56th Meeting of the United Nations Tourism Commission for East Asia and the Pacific (CAP 56), the 60th Meeting of the United Nations Tourism Commission for South Asia (CSA 60) and the UN Regional Tourism Conference on Tourism Policies in the Circular Economy, 15-16 April 2025 in Jakarta, Indonesia, at the invitation of the Government of Indonesia.
During the forum, His Excellency the Vice Prime Minister also made important interactions, key interventions and highlighted Timor-Leste as an emerging tourism destination in Southeast Asia with significant tourism potential due to its rich cultural heritage, stunning natural landscapes and unique biodiversity, pristine beaches, vast mountains and vibrant local culture and Timorese identity.
He also reaffirmed the readiness of the Government of Timor-Leste for international cooperation and partnerships to unlock its tourism potential, collaborating with international organizations and the UN as well as private sector partners who can help develop infrastructure, enhance marketing efforts, transfer knowledge and best practices, thus enabling Timor-Leste to build a resilient tourism sector that highlights its unique offerings, preserves its environmental and cultural heritage, and positions itself as a desirable tourist destination in the region.
During the visit, His Excellency the Vice Prime Minister accompanied by Ambassador Roberto Soares also participated in side events and friendly meetings to promote cooperation and partnerships to ensure sustainable tourism growth among friendly countries.
The forum was attended by all UN Tourism member states and was very well organized and hosted by Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia.
