DILI, 29 April 2025 (TATOLI) – On Tuesday, the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, appointed Afonso Carmona as the new President of Timor-Leste’s Court of Appeal.
Carmona has been appointed through Presidential Decree No. 35/2025 of 29 April 2025.
Prior to his nomination, Carmona served as judge administrator in several Courts of First Instance in the country, including in Baucau and Dili.
Carmona will be officially sworn in as the new President of the Court of Appeal by the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, on Tuesday, 29 April 2025, at 4pm at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace in Dili.
Carmona replaced his predecessor, Deolindo dos Santos, who had served two terms since 2017.
Timor-Leste’s Constitution, specifically section 86(j) in conjunction with section 124(3), grants the President of the Republic, the power to appoint and swear in the new President of the Court of Appeal.
