Brunei Ambassador Wan Lutfan Bids Farewell to President Horta

DILI, 27 May 2025 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta today received Wan Hadfi Lutfan, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Timor-Leste, for a farewell call at the Presidential Palace.

Ambassador Lutfan, who commenced his duties in June 2022, is concluding his diplomatic mission in Timor-Leste and will be taking up a new post in Brunei.

The President acknowledged the Ambassador’s service and the positive trajectory of relations during his tenure.

During the meeting, Ambassador Lutfan reflected on the significant progress in bilateral relations, particularly over the past three years.

Ambassador underscored the state visit of His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam to Timor-Leste in 2024 and President Ramos-Horta’s state visit to Brunei in November 2023 as pivotal moments. These high-level exchanges, he noted, generated considerable awareness and interest among the public and private sectors of both nations.

The outgoing Ambassador also highlighted ongoing and developing cooperation, mentioning several high-level visits and ministerial meetings focused on enhancing collaboration in key sectors such as health, education, the oil and gas industry, and air connectivity.

President Horta expressed his appreciation for Ambassador Lutfan’s dedicated efforts in strengthening Timor-Leste-Brunei Darussalam ties and wished him success in his future endeavors.
