DILI, 18 September 2025 (TATOLI) – The government of Timor-Leste plans to convert the old port into a major international convention center. The project was presented to the Council of Ministers by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Affairs, Tourism, and Environment, Francisco Kalbuadi Lay.
The new Dili International Convention Center aims to be a symbol of modernization and regional integration as Timor-Leste works toward joining the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The convention center will feature a main building with conference rooms, auditoriums, and exhibition halls, along with complementary leisure and tourism areas. These include a pedestrian walkway along the pier, an aquarium, and an entertainment and commercial center.
The project is also intended to revitalize the city’s waterfront, positioning Dili as a destination for large-scale international events.
Officials say it will boost tourism, stimulate the economy, and create new opportunities for the community.
