DILI, 09 June 2026 (TATOLI) — Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão and his delegation visited the Vietnam–Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) on Monday as part of his official visit to Vietnam from June 7 to 10, 2026, during which he is scheduled to attend the ASEAN Future Forum 2026 in Hanoi.
During the visit, Prime Minister Gusmão and his delegation received a briefing on Vietnam’s transformation into one of Southeast Asia’s leading hubs for industrial production, trade, and foreign investment.
The Vietnam–Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) was established through a joint initiative between Vietnam and Singapore and has become a flagship symbol of the two countries’ economic partnership. Backed by both governments, the project is a joint venture between Singapore’s Sembcorp Development and Vietnam’s Becamex IDC Corporation.

During the visit, the delegation met with provincial authorities and VSIP executives to discuss investment facilitation, industrial park development, workforce skills training and efforts to enhance the business environment.
Both sides explored potential areas of economic cooperation between Timor-Leste and Vietnam, including trade, investment, industrial development, and human capital development.
Prior to the industrial park visit, Gusmão paid tribute at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, honoring former Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh and the country’s national heroes.
During the ceremony, the Timorese delegation expressed respect for Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and its socio-economic achievements over recent decades. The tribute symbolized recognition of the shared values of patriotism, self-determination and sovereignty that underpin relations between the two countries.
Gusmão’s official visit to Vietnam is expected to strengthen cooperation in education and higher education, trade and investment, connectivity, human resource development, and people-to-people exchanges.
Several cooperation agreements are expected to be signed during the visit, including accords on education, visa exemptions for holders of ordinary passports, and cooperation in the media sector.
The prime minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Francisco Kalbuady Lay, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Affairs Mariano Assanami Sabino, Foreign Minister Bendito Freitas, Education Minister Dulce de Jesus Soares, Commerce and Industry Minister Filipus Nino Pereira, Vice Minister for ASEAN Affairs Milena Rangel, Secretary of State for Social Communication Expedito Ximenes, and Head of the Prime Minister’s Office Elisabeth Exposto.
