DILI, 04 April 2025 (TATOLI) – The Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment (SEFOPE), Rogério Mendonça, and the President of the Northern Japan Human Resource Development Association, Kazuo Suzuki, signed a labor mobility agreement.

The agreement signed between the two parties aims to ease the hiring of Timorese workers to work in Japan

According to Mendonça, candidates must be fluent in Japanese, have the necessary skills to work in their respective fields, and be in good health.

“The selected workers will be working in elderly care and agriculture field, especially in horticulture and forestry,” said Mendonça.

Meanwhile, Suzuki said the agreement would initially pave the way for deploying at least 10 Timorese workers to Japan: “We will initially recruit ten Timorese workers.”

The contract will last from three to five years, with the possibility of renewal,” he added.

It’s recalled that, in 2023, SEFOPE sent seven Timorese workers to Japan through a cooperation agreement with the Japanese company Kochi Agro Farm.
