PM: The extension of State of Emergency to avoid the coronavirus disease

DILI, 26 novembru 2020 (TATOLI)— Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak said the renewal of the 8th State of Emergency by another 30 days is to avoid traces of the coronavirus that might be lurking on surface from entering to Timor-Leste.

“All positive cases have recovered, but we must remain vigilant, therefore we ask the president to extend the state of emergency to block the disease from entering to this country,” Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak said at the Government Palace.

Worldwide, the number of infected people has already exceeded 35 million, particularly in the neighboring countries.

“Our experience is not the same as the experience of other countries, because they are doing a state of emergency and lockdown because the disease has been infected in their communities, but we are doing a state of emergency to prevent the disease from entering to our country,” Prime Minister Said.

Hence, the PM said the ban from the eighth period of State of Emergency will remains the same, all activities will run in accordance with the practice of Covid-19.

The extension of the 8th period of SE is due to the concerns of the epidemiological situation and proliferation on recorded cases and the contagious of COVID-19 in Regional and International levels.

It is also to limit and neutralize the risk of propagation and to protect public health and have the capacity to deal with the health system.
