Chinese Government Scholarship Program is now open for application

DÍLI, 06 October 2026 (TATOLI) – The Chinese Government will offer 20 fully funded scholarship for Timorese students to pursue higher education in China starting with the academic year 2027/2028.

This scholarship covers undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, general scholar and senior scholar programs.

Ministry of Higher Education and Science (MoHES) encouraged the interested applicants to visit the ministry’s official website and Facebook page for details on eligibility requirements and online application procedures.

To be eligible, applicants must:

• be a citizen of Timor-Leste;
• be in good health both mentally and physically;
• be ready to study in China independently;
• be free of criminal records
• be a high school graduate under 25 when applying for an undergraduate scholarship program;
• be under 35 years old when applying for a master’s degree program;
• be under 40 years of age when applying for a doctoral degree
• be under 45 years old when applying for the General Scholar Program
• be under 50 years of age when applying for the Senior scholar program

• A copy of a Passport
• Copy of diploma and high school report book (with English translation)
• A copy of the transcript (with English version) for master and Ph.D. applicants
• A copy of the China HSK certificate and IELTS or TOEFL certificates
• CSCA Score Report (for Bachelor’s Degree Applicants)
• Pre-acceptance letter for master’s and doctoral applicants
• Study Plan (for Non-Degree, Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD Applicants)
• Recommendation Letters from University Professors for Master’s and Doctoral Applicants
• Candidates applying for Arts and Design must present their artistic work
• Candidates under 18 must submit a declaration on the Authorization To The Guardian
• Copy of Foreign Physical Examination Form
• Copy of non-criminal record report
• Copy of Birth Certificate
• Copy of the Electoral Card and Identity Card of the applicants
