DILI, 11 June 2021 (TATOLI) – The current Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in Timor-Leste, Boibait Malainin Boibuat, today delivered his letter of credentials to the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Ólo, at the Timorese Presidential Palace.
“I accompany the President of the Republic. We received a letter of credentials from the new Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Republic. We know that the people of Saharawi are still fighting for their self-determination. The history is almost similar to that of Timor-Leste, from 1975 until now,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza of the diplomatic credential letter.
The Governor also mentioned that Lú Ólo encouraged the new ambassador to continue fighting for the independence of the people of Saraui. Adaljiza Magno also stated that, although Timor-Leste has not yet signed any agreement with the Sahrawi Arab Republic, it continues to support the full independence of this state.
“We have the constitutional mandate, so we need to support the country that is fighting for its independence. Although we do not have any cooperation, we must provide a space for you to establish your embassy here.
We continue to intervene in the United Nations on the cause of the Sahrawi Arab Republic, thus determining the future of this people,” she revealed.
Timor-Leste is a state that recognizes the Sahrawi Arab Republic as a nation and has diplomatic representation in this country, which is why it supports and is in solidarity with the Sahrawi struggle for independence.
Remember that the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic is a country that claims control of the entire Western Sahara, a former Spanish colony. On February 27, 1976, the country proclaimed its independence. It currently controls about 20% of its territory and the rest are controlled by Morocco.
