DILI, 14 june 2021 (TATOLI) – The Ambassador of the European Union to Timor-Leste, Andrew Jacob said since the country is affected by pandemics until today The EU has provided $7,800 million to support Timor-Leste in the fight against covid-19.
“Since the country is affected by COVID-19 pandemic in last march 2020 we have supported the program to deal with covid-19 with the amount of $7,800 million,” Ambassador said recently after meeting with PM Taur Matan Ruak at Farol Dili.
The EU has been providing support to Timor-Leste with the amount of $6.4 million including $1.2 million available from WHO for the emergency response for covid-19 from the Humanitarian Office of EU.
The support has been provided is $2.4 million to the WHO in Timor-Leste to make available its work with the Ministry of Health Timor-Leste to reduce the health impact from the transmission disease between the community particularly covid-19 also contribution for the construction of health system which is efficacy and resilience in Timor-Leste.
The EU also has provided support to Civil Society organizations to help the most vulnerable people during the pandemic and provided spotlight incentives focused on those who are at the risk of domestic violence.
The EU will provide an additional $1.2 million to WHO for the program of reinforcement of prevention capacity across municipalities to deal with a global pandemic.
“EU is committed to continuing to support Timor-Leste to fight covid-19 particularly for the vaccination program in Dili and municipalities,” he said.
