DILI, 21 august 2021 (TATOLI)- The Secretary of State for civil protection (SSCP) through the National Directorate Conflict Prevention (NDCP) in coordinating with United Nations Women (UNW) discussed the second period of the women mediators project to be implemented at the end of this year.
“ The meeting today is to gather all stakeholder’s ideas to formulate all activities in 2021. Hopefully, all discussion process will be going smoothly, and Hopefully, the program will be officially launched in November,” The secretary of state of Civil Protection, Joaquim Gusmão told journalists at his office in Caicoli, on 19 August 2021, this Thursday.
He added that it is the women’s peace reinforcement on gender equality, thus the activity is supporting the women to be mediators of peace in their family and community level.
SEPS has identified the important points have been achieved in the first period on gender equality cannibalization. It is important to provide more priority for the promotion of gender equality in the second phase.
The first period has shown important points for involving women as mediators for any conflict. It is great that women are most effectively working on mediators in the National Directorate Conflict Prevention (NDCP).
This program will be implemented in all municipalities around Timor-Leste including Dili.
The Minister of Interior is responsible for this program under coordination with SSCP through National Directorate Conflict Prevention (NDCP) and partnership on coordinating with United Nations Women (UNW).
This project is funded by the Swiss government through UN Women to support the national development action plan 1325, especially for government commitment ensuring the women’s agenda promotes peace and security in Timor-Leste.
The funds allocated for this project are USD 60,000.
The first period of this program was implemented from 2016 to 2020. The second period will be officially launched at the end of the year 2021. The program will be conducted for four years in 2022 and 2025.
